Senior Pupils Unleash Spooky Creativity for Hallowe'en
The senior pupils embraced the Halloween spirit through spooky art and creative writing. They designed haunted houses using recycled materials, complete with eerie windows and ghostly details, and wrote imaginative Halloween reports. Well done to everyone for their fantastic creativity and effort!
We are delighted to share that the pupils in the Senior Room have embarked on an exciting musical journey: learning the tin whistle!
Under the expert guidance of Ms. Culhane, the children are quickly picking up the basics of this traditional Irish instrument.
We are already hearing the sweet sounds of scales and simple tunes drifting from the classroom! It's fantastic to see the focus and enthusiasm the children are bringing to these lessons.
A huge Míle Buíochas to Ms. Culhane for generously sharing her musical skills. Her expertise is making the learning process both fun and rewarding.
Our 6th Class pupils had a fantastic and eye-opening day at Tarbert Comprehensive School for their annual Connectivity Day! This is a brilliant opportunity for them to visit their future secondary school and get a real taste of what awaits them next year.
The day was packed with great, fun-filled activities designed to show off the diverse subjects available in second level. Our pupils got hands-on with some brilliant new skills, including: Metal Work, P.E., Technical Graphics and Art
The pupils had a wonderful time exploring the school, meeting the teachers, and getting a head start on their transition.
Míle Buíochas (A thousand thanks!) to Tarbert Comprehensive School for hosting us and for providing such an engaging and valuable experience for our pupils! It's a huge help in preparing them for their big move.
Our pupils have truly outdone themselves in the art room recently, diving into projects that blended history, mythology, and local geography! We’re thrilled to share a selection of the wonderful work that's been completed by the Senior Class.
Our first featured project saw the pupils mastering the essential skill of grid drawing. This technical method is key to accurately reproducing images, and they put it to the test by tackling the legendary Irish hero, Fionn Mac Cumhaill, and his band of warriors, the Fianna.
The second project switches gears from ancient myths to local reality, our pupils explored their own surroundings with the "Mapping Our Village" project. This project fostered a deeper connection to our local environment and beautifully blended geography, art, and personal perspective.
A huge well done to all the pupils! Their commitment to these diverse projects has produced truly wonderful work that is now proudly decorating our walls.

September
As the new school year began in September, we took the time to create a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment where everyone felt comfortable and valued. We got to know each other better, we engaged in a variety of icebreaker activities and shared personal stories and interests.
Maths Stations
In September, maths stations were successfully introduced into the Senior classroom. These enhance student engagement and understanding. A variety of stations are carefully planned which focus on key mathematical concepts, ensuring they align with the new maths curriculum. These stations incorporate hands-on activities, manipulatives, and problem-solving tasks to provide students with diverse learning opportunities. By rotating through different stations, students are able to practice skills at their own pace and receive individualised support. This approach is proven to be effective in fostering a positive and productive learning environment.
Football
A group of enthusiastic young athletes from the Senior room began their football training journey in September, practicing after school to hone their skills and developing a passion for the sport. The children had a lot of fun playing football and learning new skills.
Maths Week
We had a fantastic Maths Week filled with engaging activities and fun challenges. We created and played our own maths board games, had fun creating fractions based on our names and completed maths trails. It was so much fun!
Art
By exploring the colours of autumn and the shapes of spooky skeletons, we learned about art techniques and celebrated the season.
Happy Halloween
Happy Halloween from everyone in the Senior Room.
Heritage Keepers Programme
We are very excited to have started the National Heritage Keepers Programme. This consists of 5 x 1 hour online workshops based on the heritage of our local area. We are doing these Zoom calls with several other school groups from all over Ireland. We enables us to learn from each other and get an extra perspective on our place. Following on from this, we will build towards completing a local heritage project.
Science Week
"Science Week 2024 was a huge success in the Senior Room! 🧪🔬 Our young scientists had a blast with hands-on experiments. Thanks to all who made it possible.
Christmas Play
The students of the Junior and Senior Rooms brought the spirit of Christmas to life with their heart warming performance of Tinsel and Tea Towels on the 30th of November. Some highlights from their incredible performance can be found on our school Facebook page.
Happy Christmas
Happy Christmas from everyone in the Senior Room.
Junior Entrepreneur Programme
The Senior Room has been buzzing with entrepreneurial spirit! Our pupils recently completed the Junior Entrepreneur Programme (JEP), a journey that took them from individual brainstorming to collaborative business planning. After developing and presenting their innovative ideas to our 'Dragons,' the class selected 'Bizzy Bagz' as their chosen venture. We're now diving into market research and preparing for the production of these exciting bags. Stay tuned for updates!
Care Aware Crew Programme
Our Senior Class has been actively participating in the Care Aware Crew program, gaining valuable first aid and emergency response skills. Over six weeks, they covered essential topics including calling an ambulance, treating fractures and sprains, managing head injuries, wound care, building a first aid kit, and responding to sudden medical emergencies. This program has equipped our students with practical knowledge to handle real-life situations.
Heritage Keepers Project
Our Senior Class has been immersed in local history! They recently embarked on a Heritage Keepers project with Burren Beo, exploring our area's rich past from the medieval period to the early 20th century. A highlight of the project was a field trip to a ringfort, Shanid Castle, and the old castle at Glin, guided by heritage expert Jimmy Duggan. The students are now compiling their research and experiences into a booklet, showcasing their newfound knowledge of our local heritage. Watch this space!
Cultural Showcase: Pakistan Comes to Life!
What a fantastic presentation by Ayesha, Aqib, and Anabia, who brought the vibrant culture of Pakistan to life for our senior class! Their project was truly engaging, complete with delicious food tastings and a stunning traditional dress. A huge thank you to Amaia for her wonderful work modelling the dress and creating the beautiful artwork that enhanced the presentation. And of course, special thanks to Mrs. Moore, whose dedication and hard work with the children made this entire learning experience possible.
